Muratec is a North American subsidiary of Murata Machinery Ltd., a privately held Japanese corporation founded in 1935.  Muratec is a manufacturer of fax-based Multi-Function Devices (MFD) office equipment, as well as desktop and small workgroup copier-based MFD's. 

The company entered the North American market in 1982 as Murata Business Systems to sell fax machines through private-label agreements with multiple companies, including Xerox.  In 1985, it began marketing fax products under its own name, Muratec, from corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas.  In 1992 Muratec realigned its business model away from retail and wholesale production for other companies on order to focus on sales and distribution exclusively through a national business-to-business dealer channel.

Muratec was awarded "MFD Facsimile Manufacturer of the Year" by Marketing Research Consultants in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
